Andrea Hunter

Sessional Lecturer

I obtained my Bachelor of Elementary Education from the University of Regina in 2000. Directly following that I stayed in Saskatchewan and was hired by Regina Catholic School Division and taught in a K-6 school. In 2001 I relocated to Calgary and spent 25 years serving and teaching in Calgary Catholic School District. Throughout those 25 years, 17 years were teaching in numerous K-6 and K-9 schools in numerous grades and additionally supporting music and athletic programs. I was hired during that time as a staff member to open two new\ schools. A K-6 in 2004 and a K-9 in 2016. In 2017 I was accepted at University of Calgary to start my three year interdisciplinary Master of Education. The first year focused on Children’s Mental Health, the second focused on Healthy and Socially Just Schools, and my final year was centred around research on Traditional Masculinity Norms, Expectations, and Behaviours and the Effects on Youth in Competitive Sports. In 2018 I entered into an Assistant Principal position at a K-9 school, in 2021 I started as Vice Principal in a K-9 and K-6 and in 2024 a
Principal in a K-6. Throughout my whole 25 years I worked and gained valuable experience and knowledge in schools located in the NW, NE & SE quadrants of the city.

This is my first year teaching at St. Mary’s University. I am teaching EDCM 409 which focuses on assessment in the classroom.
I am also currently teaching TQS focused seminar classes in the Faculty of Education at Ambrose University with first year education students along with practicum evaluating first and second year students.
